Types of IELTS Tests
There are two main types of IELTS tests. The first is the General Test designed to evaluate the skills of candidates seeking employment or permanent residency in English speaking countries such as the USA, Canada or Australia. The second is the Academic Test which focuses on students aiming to study abroad. IELTS Test Structure
The IELTS Test is conducted to evaluate the student’s proficiency in English. Students are required to qualify in English reading, writing, listening and speaking tests. The overall performance of a student is remarked with Band Scores between 1 to 9. The 1 Band Score is considered the lowest score (“Non-User”) whereas the 9 band score is regarded as the highest Band Score (“Expert User”).
Generally, A band score above 6 is required for admission and permanent residency in many foreign countries. To achieve the best results students should focus on improving their skills in all four areas. The total test duration is 2 hours and 45 minutes with the speaking test conducted separately. The test’s final result concludes whether the user is near to “expert-user” band score or “non-user” band score.
