How to Apply for PG in the UK?
There are two different ways by which you can apply for admission to a PG medical college in the UK.
Medical PG Program UK with PLAB Test
The UK conducts the PLAB (Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board) exam to examine doctors’ skills, ability, and knowledge who have a medical degree in a country other than the UK. Many medical colleges in the UK want you to pass the PLAB test to apply for admission to a PG medical course.
The PLAB test is basically a two-part test. You need to pass the PLAB part 1 and part 2 test to be eligible for a medical PG in the UK.
The PLAB part-1 test is a written MCQ (multiple-choice questions) exam with around 180 questions. The exam duration is 3 hours. When you log in to GMC Online, you can check for the details and locations of this exam.
The PLAB part-2 test is basically an objective structured clinical exam. You will be given 18 scenarios of each 8 minutes where you will have to react to real-life situations, including mock consultations or acute wards. If you pass both levels of PLAB, you will get a passing certificate.
Medical PG in the UK without PLAB
A couple of medical colleges in the UK accept admission to medical PG courses without the need for the PLAB test. Each UK university has its own set of eligibility criteria that you have to qualify to apply for a seat without the PLAB test.
